Business intelligence deployment at Post Office Limited to optimise performance

Leading IT and business services company Logica has won a five year contract with Post Office Limited part of Royal Mail Group, to implement and support two centralised business intelligence systems. The new systems will support the Post Office’s strategic plan for the modernisation of its systems and services to enable them to become more responsive to market conditions and changing business needs, whilst incurring lower support costs. Also enabling management to assess both product competitiveness and profitability, the solution is set to dramatically improve the way services are delivered.

Replacing two current life-expired systems, Logica will implement two information management products – Kalido Master Data Management (Kalido MDM) and Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse (Kalido DIW).  Logica will provide applications management services for five years once the systems go live in early 2009.

Kalido MDM will hold and manage all of the Post Office’s reference data, which includes everything from office addresses to products for sale, including travel insurance and the price of stamps. Extracts of this data will be distributed to other systems every night. The Kalido DIW is a responsive data warehouse, storing updated information about the numbers and types of products sold daily at post office branches and other outlets. The two products will in effect provide a single solution, offering timely and accurate information to support the sales process and help the Post Office ensure its products are fully competitive.

Commenting on the partnership, Keith Graves, Post Office Limited, said: “Working with Logica will help us meet the challenging targets we have for growth, service and cost effectiveness. The new business intelligence system will deliver major improvements in consistency, efficiency and access to information. It will also allow us to move away from our previous disparate systems by having integrated, standardised methodology, resulting in up-to-date reporting processes and information. This delivers true visibility across the entire team and a more efficient way of working, all resulting ultimately in increased sales”.

Harbinder Dhaliwal, Director, Transport and Logistics at Logica in the UK, said: “We are delighted that the Post Office has chosen us to support the transformation of these key systems. By integrating these new systems into its information infrastructure, the Post Office will be able to greatly improve its efficiency, enabling it to better respond to increasingly competitive conditions in its marketplace. Logica’s experience with Kalido systems in other blue chip companies means we are well placed to oversee a seamless transition to the new system. We look forward to continuing a long-term partnership with the Post Office.”
