Logica recognised as one of the UK’s top 20 Best Green Companies in the Sunday Times awards

15 May 2008

Logica’s environmental strategy rewarded in national accolade

Logica, one of Europe’s leading IT and business services companies, was recognised in the Sunday Times top best green companies at an awards ceremony held in London. Within the top 20, the accolade recognises Logica’s commitment to engaging with green initiatives and establishing a high internal environmental standard.

The Sunday Times competition is designed to encourage and acknowledge businesses and other organisations that are striving to improve their environmental performance. Logica has been recognised to effectively tackling global warming and is actively reducing its own carbon emissions and improving its energy efficiency through its innovative “Stamp down our Carbon Footprint” campaign. The campaign aims to raise staff awareness of the issues by measuring and reporting on Logica’s environmental impact and showing what can be done to reduce it.

In November 2006, Logica started a number of staff initiatives to encourage energy efficiency at work, as well as making changes to energy management, business travel, waste and recycling. Successes of the campaign include a 10% reduction for our 2007 total carbon emissions (equating to nearly 4,000 tonnes of CO2), including significant reductions in our business travel of 30% for air and 10% for road respectively, and 5% reductions in our electricity use in our non-data centre offices. In addition, procuring more environmentally friendly electricity supplies has saved nearly 16,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions since November 2006.

Bill Floydd, UK CFO at Logica, commented: “We are delighted to have been recognised by the Sunday Times.  I want to express my thanks to all my colleagues at Logica, who have collectively helped to ensure that Logica as a company cuts its carbon emissions.  For Logica it simply makes good business sense to be energy efficient. Our carbon reduction efforts have allowed us to switch to a greener electricity supply and at the same time, lower our energy bills, which fundamentally impacts the bottom line. These help to increase our competitiveness.”

Commenting on Logica’s approach to business, IT and the environment through sustainable services, he added:  “Logica is a practitioner of sustainable technologies that cut waste and reduce carbon footprint whilst enabling clients to achieve their significant business goals. We are taking a leadership position demonstrating how working across industries can enable sustainable prosperity by sharing our experience; learning’s and tools to help every business reduce its global environmental imprint.”
