Logica’s greenhouse gas reporting systems underpins the carbon monoxides emissions programme of a leading global manufacturing company. ‘Carbon trading’ schemes are widely recognised as an effective means of reducing overall emissions.

Governments are even beginning to talk of personal carbon trading schemes, where activities like driving a car will be monitored and measured and fed into individual "carbon accounts", which in turn could affect personal taxation levels.

Logica is delivering systems and services to industry and the public sector that enables them to manage, report and comply with regulations relating to emissions and energy management. This is particularly important for organisations with multiple sites and operations in multiple countries.

We are also working with five leading universities on the MESSAGE Project, exploring the use of nanotechnology sensors to detect and report the emissions of individual vehicles.  The data is then transmitted using wireless technologies to processing centres.  This is a pioneering use of prevasive sensors to support today's developing environmental needs.

Road transport is the fastest growing contributor to greenhouse gases. Vehicle manufacturers are making strides in reducing engine emissions, but their work is undermined by congestion and the growth in the number of vehicles. We need to make it easier and more attractive for people to use public transport alternatives to try and reduce that congestion.

Logica's ITS solutions support this ‘modal switch’, from advanced road tolling to real-time travel information and Smart Retailing, which make public transport networks easier and more attractive to use.
