Logica wins £12m contract with Waltham Forest to deliver and manage SAP e-government solution
Logica illustrates SAP implementation and services track record in local government with third key win; Global solutions company to play central role in streamlining London Borough of Waltham Forest’s core business processes to meet e-Government targets.
Logica today announces a £12m, 10-year contract with the London Borough of Waltham Forest to replace its IT systems with an integrated SAP solution providing best-practice processes, increased efficiencies and cost savings—ultimately helping the council to meet e-Government modernising targets.
The business transformation initiative began with one of the quickest procurement processes ever in local government for this type of solution, with the overall bidding and selection phase taking just 10 weeks.
Logica will play a pivotal role in transforming the Council into a services-driven organisation as their outdated IT systems have been holding back performance. The new solution will make Waltham Forest more responsive to the needs of the people it serves, modernise its management and allow both residents and business to use website transactions efficiently.
As part of the fully managed service, due to go live in April 2003, Logica will re-engineer the council’s core back-office systems with mySAP Financials and mySAP e-Procurement. Logica has also partnered with IT human resources specialist Pecaso, to deliver its proven mySAP HR and payroll solution for local government. The system will be hosted at Logica’s Service Centre in Bridgend. Change management and training will be a key part of the project to ensure the 3,500 council staff adopt the new and improved way of working.
A similar SAP solution is already being implemented at neighboring borough Haringey. The Waltham Forest contract builds on this good practice model.
Chan Badrinath, Executive Director of Corporate Services at Waltham Forest said, “Logica put together an innovative solution that would enable us to benefit from SAP’s world-class systems. To see the relationship working well at Haringey made a big difference, as did Logica’s significant experience in local government. We are now putting in place the essential building blocks to join-up the council’s processes, enabling us to drive down costs, significantly increase efficiencies and meet modernising targets. Our community will soon see the benefits of this through the improved delivery of the services we provide.”
Walter Cormack, Director of Enterprise Solutions at Logica said, “Waltham Forest is focused on transforming its operations to improve the way in which it provides services to the public. Logica has made a long-term commitment to the Council, forming a strategic partnership to help meet the challenge of e-Government and enable flexibility for change.”
Ian Swann, Divisional Manager, Public Sector at SAP UK said, “By making this investment Waltham Forest has demonstrated its commitment to e-Government. With mySAP.com the Council will have fully integrated systems that will streamline its business processes and a platform to provide the cornerstone for change. The contract, which was procured in an impressive timeframe, cements Logica’s position as a leading SAP partner in local government.”
