When we talk about global warming, it’s not just hot air. We know about sustainability indicators, emissions targets and reducing your carbon footprint because we’ve been there and done that ourselves. And we can help you to do your bit to save the planet, too.

In two years we have reduced our emissions by 15 per cent and cut our energy and travel costs by more than £10.5 million. And that’s without the help of our Sustainability Indicator Reporting Application (SIRA), which we only implemented internally in 2009.

SIRA is a reporting tool specifically designed to measure and manage sustainability performance. It helps organisations to comply with current and future legislation and reduce their environmental impact. It also tracks cost-cutting initiatives and shows where future savings can be made. SIRA is flexible, scalable and, most importantly, pays for itself in no time at all.

But it’s not the only way we’ve combined clever technology with user-friendly design to reduce waste and cut costs.

With the help of Swedish energy company Växjö Energi AB (VEAB) we have created Instant Energy, a web-based monitoring service that shows users how much energy they’re using. That means you can see what’s burning the most units and take steps to cut down. The portal, which allows people to compete against each other to save fuel, won a European Utility Award in October 2007.

It could be an object lesson – in fact,  it can unleash information for learning purposes at school, college or in the home.
