Citizens Advice strategic transformation programme
18 March 2010
Logica, a business and technology service company, today announced that it has been chosen by Citizens Advice to implement a major transformation project that will enable the charity to deliver better services to a larger and more diverse audience. Logica will work with Citizens Advice as a strategic business partner on a five year programme that will see the organisation overhaul its IT infrastructure and put in place new, more intuitive end-user services.
The transformation project will help the Citizens Advice service adapt to the increase in public demand driven by the economic crisis. The demand for Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) services is at an all time high and advisers have never been so busy. Since the start of the recession CAB advisers have helped at least 3.25 million people with 11 million problems. Its frontline advice services will continue to play a vital role in helping millions of people weather the worst effects of the recession for a long time after official recovery.
“The impact of the recession has meant that many more people are coming to the Citizens Advice service for help,” said Barry Garlick, Citizens Advice Head of ICT. “It was clear we needed a fundamental rethink of the approach to the technology that helps deliver a better service to our clients. This was necessary to address the specific short-term demands of today’s economic climate, but also needed to be sustainable so that we can better predict and address tomorrow’s requirements. In order to meet this demand, we need to transform the way that we support the use of IT in our member bureaux and to better reflect the ways in which people will in future expect to access advice and information. The changes that Logica is helping us make in our business will enable us to deliver services through different channels, while freeing our bureaux to focus on providing the highest quality advice to our clients and to extend our influence on social policy.”
“Citizens Advice wanted a strategic partner that was able to provide technology which would help transform the CAB service for the modern era and provide tangible business benefits, not just technology benefits”, said Nigel Kirby-Green, managing director for Public Sector at Logica UK. “Building on the strong relationships that already existed between our business and the CAB service; we were able to put forward a clear vision of how the service could evolve, underpinned by technology.”
As well as streamlining the number of suppliers to reduce the management burden, the project will incorporate various technologies including virtualisation, Microsoft Dynamics CRM and hosted services to drive innovation. This will help create new ways for people to interact with the service.
Nigel Kirby-Green continued: “The key was to find the right technology that allowed the bureaux to meet the short-term increase in enquiries from the public, while simplifying their core IT infrastructure for the long-term. We are committed to long-term collaboration with our clients. We look forward to working with Citizens Advice to drive outcomes that are and remain relevant to the public who benefit from the invaluable advice the bureaux provides.”
