Logica UK awarded the Carbon Trust Standard
Logica, a leading business and technology service company, has today announced that it has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in the UK after taking action on climate change by measuring, managing and reducing its carbon emissions by nearly 10% from January 2007 until December 2009*.
The Carbon Trust Standard recognises organisations for real carbon reduction. Based on a rigorous, independent assessment, it certifies that organisations have measured their carbon footprint over a period of three years, have achieved reductions in their emissions and can provide evidence of ongoing carbon management.
The reduction and improved energy efficiency is a result of Logica UK’s innovative “Stamp down our Carbon Footprint” campaign. This programme of action has involed the consolidation of offices and servers, as well as the adoption of a ‘work from anywhere’ practice. These efforts has been highly successful, making Logica UK a green leader in the IT and business service sectors.
Logica UK’s success in driving down its carbon footprint has been based around the ability to monitor its emissions, allowing the organisation in-turn to implement and assess a range of energy-saving initiatives. These include: building control optimisation, reducing incandescent lighting, energy walk-around checks, free-air cooling and an energetic staff engagement programme. All UK sites run on 100% renewable electricity and business flights are down by nearly half compared to four years ago, which has also brought significant cost-savings.
Building on its successes so far, Logica UK has set itself a tough new target of 50% reduction in emissions by 2020 from 2008 figures.
Before achieving the Carbon Trust Standard, Logica UK was recognised as the "Best medium/large company with a low environmental impact” at the Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards in May of this year.
Craig Boundy, Chief Executive Officer at Logica UK, commented: “We are very pleased to have been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard as a recognition of our ongoing green credentials. Not only is this good for the environment, but it’s good for the business: switching to a greener electricity supply as part of the carbon reduction efforts has lowered our energy bills, while our clients appreciate the action we have taken in order to limit our impact on the environment.”
Commenting further on Logica UK’s approach to IT and the environment, he added: “Logica UK takes great pride in enabling its clients to use sustainable technologies that reduce carbon footprint and cut waste while helping them to meet their strategic IT objectives. We are taking a leadership position around carbon reduction by helping our partners and customers to lessen their impact on the environment; it’s important that we are as stringent with our own approach to green issues as many of our clients are with theirs.”
Harry Morrison, General Manager at the Carbon Trust Standard Company, said: “We congratulate Logica UK on their certification. Carbon is a complex issue so most people need shorthand to indicate whether a company is doing the right thing. Achieving the Standard allows Logica UK to talk with integrity about the serious and credible steps it has taken to reduce its carbon emissions.”
