CIFAS – the UK’s Fraud Prevention Service renews contract with Logica for another ten years
Existing system helped to identify almost 175,000 cases of fraud saving £4.1billion
Logica, a leading business and technology service company, today announced that it has signed a £4.9m contract with CIFAS – the UK’s Fraud Prevention Service to support and host its core system for a further ten years. CIFAS helps to identify financial and related crime in the UK. It’s a not-for-profit membership association representing some 260 private and public sector organisations and operates two Logica driven databases, the UK’s National Fraud Database (NFD) and the Staff Fraud Database (SFD).
Logica first started working with CIFAS in 2002 when it built a data repository with web access to share details of confirmed frauds committed against its Members. In the nine months to September this year, Logica’s system helped to identify almost 175,000 cases of fraud. During the last five years CIFAS Members have reported fraud savings of over £4.1 billion through the National Fraud Database. The systems have been transformed so Members can now pinpoint fraud committed by their own employees using the Staff Fraud Database and link the core systems to their own internal systems using a suite of automated interfaces.
Nick Locke, Logica’s Customer Service Manager for CIFAS, said, “We renewed our contract when the first five year contract ended, and we have now done that for a second time. It is now for a ten year period, twice as long as before, which shows the level of trust and commitment that exists between Logica and CIFAS.”
Locke continued, “We will move the hosting infrastructure from London to Wales. We will also take advantage of technological changes to deliver the system across two live sites which will improve resilience and remove the need for unused hardware in an idle disaster recovery site. Advances in technology have allowed us to specify a much smaller server estate, resulting in a lower overall cost for the solution. At the same time, we have been able to include the additional configuration requirements suggested by the public sector organisations that will soon be storing their data within the system.”
CIFAS Chief Executive, Peter Hurst, welcomed the news, commenting that “CIFAS is delighted to continue its long term partnership with Logica. Over the next 10 years this will enable us to leverage Logica’s expertise and jointly provide a technologically advanced platform to reduce the cost of fraud to the UK economy. This will produce tangible benefits for our society as a whole.”
