CGI shortlisted for British Computer Society Award for Whole Hospital Information System
London, UK, October 17, 2012 – Logica, now part of CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB), a leading provider of information technology and business process services, today announced that is has been shortlisted by the British Computer Society UK IT Industry Awards for IT Project Team of the Year for its work with the British Armed Forces’ Medical Treatment Facility in Afghanistan. The Award recognizes outstanding project teams that have implemented an end-user project that has been exceptionally well-managed.
The Whole Hospital Information System supports hospital staff in providing the highest quality of care to Allied Force’s based in Afghanistan. It supports clinicians in their essential, frequently life-saving functions and provides the key management tools needed by commanders.
The demands on their current systems were becoming too high and new, more efficient solutions were needed to cope with increased requirements, introduce electronic patient records, and support patient administration. The project team helped the Ministry of Defence deliver this urgently-needed integrated hospital information system in a very short time under an Urgent Operational requirement (UOR). The system enables clinicians to focus on patient care, to improve patient safety and provide near-real-time management information on hospital capacity and utilisation, with longer-term trend monitoring. The issues of security, safety and logistics inherent in delivering in this location presented challenges to the team from the MOD, Logica and its partner System C, however the system was introduced quickly and effectively.
Neil Timms, Defence Director at CGI in the UK said, “This short-listing is recognition of the hard work the MOD and our team have put into delivering a vital service that must work in a remote and hostile environment. We are extremely proud of our work with the Whole Hospital Information System both because it is an excellent example of IT delivery but, more importantly, because it helps our Armed Forces receive the best medical care.”
The BCS and Computing UK IT Industry Awards are a platform for the entire profession to celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence. The winners will be announced on 14th November in London.
