Supporting Business Change at British Waterways

CARING FOR OUR WATERWAYS
British Waterways is the public corporation responsible for the care and enhancement of 2,200 mile, 200 year old network of canals and rivers in the UK. Often working in partnership with public, private and voluntary organisations, British Waterways seeks to develop the full economic, social, environmental and heritage of the waterways in a sustainable manner.

With an annual turnover of £200M and around 1,700 staff throughout the UK, they are a highly diverse business including leisure and tourism, property management, water sales, telecommunications and regeneration.

ADAPTING TO THE CHANGING ECONOMIC CLIMATE
In 2009, it was recognised that a significant change was required to the organisation. The planned reorganisation was to result in the merger of existing departments, the centralisation of others, and in some cases the creation of new service departments to cover the whole business. This also brought about a rationalisation of operational headcount. In order to reduce uncertainty, and bring forward the benefits realisation of the project, restructuring was to be implemented within fixed (and short) timescales. British Waterways turned to Logica, as their SAP support partner, to help develop and implement the required system changes to support the new organisation structure.
