Risk and regulation Carbon Reduction Commitment

The CRC is a mandatory scheme aimed at improving energy efficiency and cutting emissions in large public and private sector organisations. These organisations are responsible for around 10% of the UK’s emissions. If you spend more than £500k a year on energy and utilities, you are legally obliged to register as a participant in the scheme.

The scheme features an annual performance league table that ranks participants on energy efficiency performance. A cap and trade scheme is coming into force in 2014, which will allow the trading of carbon allowances. These features encourage organisations to develop energy management strategies that promote a better understanding of energy usage.

Organisations are eligible for CRC if they have at least one halfhourly electricity meter settled on the half-hourly market. Organisations that consumed more than 6,000 megawatthours per year of half hourly metered electricity during 2008, qualify for full participation.

Our services
We use Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology to collect consumption data from utility meters. This data is then transferred to a central database for consumption analysis, energy management and troubleshooting. The best part of such an approach is that it does away with the expense and inaccuracy of estimated reads. Readings are taken from each meter every half an hour. The data is used to analyse, identify and illustrate consumption patterns. Making decisions using this data can help to reduce consumption, considerably.

We have developed an Automated Monitoring and Targeting (aM&T) application. This advanced, user-friendly, web-based utility reporting system personalises, manages and manipulates data. All this is achieved in a way that allows organisations to identify wastage, save money and reduce their carbon footprint.
