Utilities

Get the balance between competition and profitability right and you have a successful, modern utilities organisation. That’s what we’ve been helping our Scottish clients to do for decades, playing an integral role in the transformation of the industry with our focus on efficiency, great customer service and technological innovation.

We’ve been providing the central market infrastructure for the UK markets for gas and electricity since 1990 and we do the same job for Scotland’s water market.

Since the introduction of New Electricity Trading Arrangements (NETA), we’ve provided 24/7 support for one utility’s suite of trading and optimisation applications, along with third line support for a range of applications used by several wholesale businesses. We also have a team specialising in configuration and integration to OpenLink’s Endur platform, which has transformed another organisation’s operational efficiency by automating the links between applications and markets.

If that’s a bit technical for your taste, how about the work we do on back office data quality? One of our clients has increased cash collected and reduced settlement costs by millions of pounds by using our application to identify and fix data inconsistencies.

And what about a hot topic in the news – energy management? Our Edinburgh office is the support hub for our award-winning Instant Energy smart metering service, which is being used to link contact centre agents and billing systems to smart meters in energy demand reduction trials and other pioneering programmes. Edinburgh also manages our automatic monitoring and targeting solution, which helps large organisations to track their performance against a range of environmental measures and identify opportunities for improvement.

Water is precious, too, and we’re an IT services framework partner to Scottish Water. We’re helping them to improve operational efficiency with an upgrade to their telemetry application and the development of a new application that will give everyone in the organisation fresh insights into the assets in their supply chain and waste water network.

At a time when the use of all our critical resources is under pressure, we’ve also led the way with our own Stamp down on carbon campaign, reducing energy use and promoting smart working that removes unnecessary travel. Logica in Scotland is a great example of what we’ve achieved – between 2007 and 2008 alone, we saved more than 91 tonnes of carbon and knocked £23,000 off our electricity bill alone. Nice to have updated figures here.
